Can someone demonstrate how this is done? I assume that the backstrap wood is glued into an area that is cut out and then carved. I'd love to see some photos of this process if anyone has any...

Here's a link to an earlier thread where I posted some pictures of my backstrapping process (it's down the page a bit):

I use a drum sander to cut a flat spot into the neck shaft the thickness of my final veneers, leaving a rounded, tapering towards the back of the neck exit point on the neck blank. I then use a vacuum bag to lay the veneers in place--a good foam caul and clamps will accomplish the same thing. Then I carve the neck, making sure that the backstrap lines stay nicely shaped and parallel.
